Albemarle County, Va

Mount Ida is one of Virginia’s finest late 18th-century Georgian plantation houses on the James River. The home (which is noted for its important interior woodwork) was moved from Buckingham County to Albemarle County. Listed on the National Register at the time of the move, Frazier Associates ensured that the relocation process would not jeopardize the designation of this important historic house.

All the elements of the house were carefully labeled as they were disassembled and put into five trucks for moving. The office also designed an addition to the rear of the house to meet the owner’s requirements as well as those of The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Frazier Associates worked in closely with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and created 3-D videos of the new design to better visually communicate its relationship to the historic dwelling.
