Albemarle County, Va

Monticola (circa 1853) represents one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture found along the James River in Virginia. Frazier Associates provided complete architectural services to carefully restore both the exterior and the interior of the home. The dramatic two-story porticos on both the main and garden façades were restored using earlier photographs as a guide. Monticola features twelve rooms, four on each floor, each with a fireplace.

The project included the use of historic tax credits to partially fund the rehabilitation costs. An interesting side note is that Hollywood came to Howardsville in 1940 and the house was used as a set for the movie, Virginia, starring Fred MacMurray. The November 2008 issue of Period Homes contains an extensive article on this project.  More recently the house was featured in Adode magazine; click here to read more.
