Regional sign systems are more complex and more comprehensive than community wayfinding. They typically are multi-jurisdictional and they require a “Right to Experiment” approval from your state department of transportation and from the Federal Highway Administration. Regional wayfinding systems usually encompass a very large geographic area, include more stakeholders and many more signs.

Our office has completed several regional wayfinding sign systems. Among these, the America’s Historic Triangle system was the first regional wayfinding system installed in Virginia. The required reviews and approvals at all levels of government makes these projects complicated. Frazier Associates’ experience with these new regional systems makes us a valuable partner for localities considering such a program.
