Older residential areas that surround a historic downtown may be designated as historic districts. They often contain a wealth of unique historic dwellings executed in a variety of architectural styles. Their craftsmanship is evident and their preservation is an important community goal.
Our firm has created design guidelines for numerous historic neighborhoods. They range from eighteenth-century townhouses to twentieth-century shipbuilder housing developments and from Victorian-era, ornately decorated mansions to African-American “shotgun” dwellings. All of these neighborhoods tell part of the story of the community, and all are worthy of careful preservation.
