Virginia State Route 36 is a major connecting road between historic downtown Petersburg and Fort Lee. Fort Lee is expanding and downtown Petersburg is revitalizing. As a part of the Army-Community Heritage Partnership, spearheaded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, these two entities recognize the important role each plays in these efforts.
Services provided by Frazier Associates included a two-day site visit to assess the design issues and needs of the Route 36 corridor. The assessment included interviews with many groups involved with both efforts, a tour of the region, and on-site assessment of the condition of the corridor. Short and long-term recommendations were made for improvements to the corridor along with graphics of several project areas.
