Charlottesville, Va

Much of downtown Charlottesville and the surrounding neighborhoods are designated as a historic district, as is the West Main Street corridor which connects downtown to the University of Virginia. The areas are called architectural control districts and any changes within them must be approved by the local board of architectural review.

Frazier Associates originally completed design guidelines for the historic district, and subsequently, for the West Main Street corridor. In 2004, after the City designated three additional historic districts, Frazier Associates completed an update to all existing guidelines and added new graphics as well. Each section of the guidelines is designed as a freestanding brochure for property owners; and all are posted on the City’s website.
