An increasing number of communities are actively engaged in exploring options for revitalization of their historic downtowns, often as part of a larger vision plan or economic development strategy. Studies by the Nation Main Street Center have shown that after approximately five of concerted efforts to make façade and streetscape improvements, larger investment begins to happen.
Frazier Associates has developed an assessment tool that can be used as a vital piece of the planning process for such improvements. A visual assessment of façades in the downtown results in a ranking by level of improvements needed and serves as benchmark for the initiative. Example projects are chosen from each of the three identified levels. Each of these projects receives façade improvement drawings wit a scope of work and cost estimate. The report also provides suggestions for possible funding sources for improvements and the implementation of a review process for changes to historic structures.
