Buildings that house governmental and institutional users are often important civic landmarks. Schools, colleges and universities have always been proud of their distinctive architecture and some of these buildings are literally the symbol of the institution. Often these buildings are designated historic landmarks or located within historic districts. These structures offer a unique opportunity for our historic architectural studio to bring back the significant features and spaces and reinvigorate the entire building with a careful and sensitive rehabilitation that extends the life of the building for future generations.
Our office has worked with federal, state, and local governments on a wide variety of projects that include both new buildings and rehabilitation of existing structures. We also work with educational institutions and other non-profit organizations on both historic and new building projects, large and small. Our senior architects are LEED Accredited Professionals and help ensure that projects can take advantage of the latest sustainable design techniques and practices.
Our programming phase includes extensive questionnaires and adjacency matrices to ensure that we carefully understand an agency’s space planning requirements. We include various design options in the early stages to offer our clients the ability to evaluate the pros and cons of each scheme. Our projected budgets are calculated by cost estimate sub-consultants as well as by our in-house team to create two independent sets of numbers.
Quality controls are instituted at each level of a project and both in-house and outside consultants check drawings and specifications to ensure accurate construction documents. Our firm also has extensive experience presenting designs to local review boards and state agencies as required.
