Lorton, Va
The original Laurel Hill House was constructed by the Lindsay family in the late-18th century as a modest plantation dwelling and underwent many alterations and additions over the next 200+ years of its existence. Its recent history includes use by the adjacent Lorton Reformatory for the warden’s residence. This entire complex was transferred from the federal government to Fairfax County and is being planned for redevelopment as an adaptive reuse project.
Frazier Associates’ detailed study of the historic house was intended to give guidance for the treatment of this cultural resource in light of a complicated architectural history and its relationship with the nearby reformatory. Several options for the future use of the property within a county-owned park were presented to the county for consideration during the planning process.
