Petersburg, Va
Despite much Civil War destruction, the City of Petersburg has an extremely rich mix of historic architecture dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. There has been a long and continuous organized effort in the City and by several civic groups to ensure the preservation of this valuable architectural collection.
Frazier Associates worked with the Architectural Review Board and City staff to provide updated guidelines for seven National Register historic districts. The individual character of each district was addressed, as were architectural styles prevalent in the city. Additional chapters included guidelines for vacant buildings, appropriate new construction, site elements, and demolition of existing buildings. The guidelines are available on the City’s website.
