Falls Church is a crossroads community in Northern Virginia that dates from 1699 and has witnessed burgeoning growth as an outlying suburb of Washington, D.C. The intersection of regional arterials, with accompanying commercial development has undermined the development of a cohesive downtown area.

Frazier Associates worked with the City to develop a comprehensive set of design guidelines for several types of areas including the redeveloping downtown, commercial entry corridors, residential areas, and four gateways. The process included visual preference workshops and numerous public meetings to ensure broad community support of the guidelines.
