Winchester, Va
The Winchester Historic District consists of the downtown commercial core surrounded by several residential areas. The district contains a wide variety of architectural styles and building types from the late 18th through the early 20th centuries. In 1999, Frazier Associates was retained to produce seven separate design guidelines’ brochures for distribution to district property owners and tenants as well as for use by the Board of Architectural Review.
With an impending streetscape project in 2011, the City turned to Frazier Associates to prepare a guidelines addendum to help business owners make appropriate changes to improve the appearance and visibility of their building’s rear facades. The publication is illustrated with photo-simulations that show the creation of welcoming rear entrances that still serve their primary utilitarian purpose while temporarily being used as the building’s main public entry.
