Lexington, Va
The award-winning rehabilitation of this block-long One Sheridan Row commercial building in the heart of Lexington’s historic district included street-front retail with three urban loft condominiums above. Each of the units takes full advantage of sustainable design elements and provides off-street parking.
Eligible for historic tax credits, this rehabilitation retained many of the building’s original existing architectural features including heart pine flooring and wood trim. The introduction of new elements respects the historic fabric and responds the needs of the twenty-first century residents of the building. Loft occupants enjoy the benefits of downtown living and all the comforts of home including generously sized rooms, fireplaces, ample storage, energy efficient appliances, rooftop patios, and “green” roofs.
The project was the recipient of a 2011 Better Models for Development Award from the Valley Conservation Council.
